The Earthly Holy Place
 
Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. For a tent was prepared, the first section, in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence.  It is called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, having the golden alter of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant. Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat.  Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant 

Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.  For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Now if he were on earth he would not be a priest at all, since here are priests who offer gifts according to the law. They serve as a copy and shadow of the heavenly  things.  For when Moses was about to erect a tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”
